After taking many classes in viticulture at Napa Valley College, the Kastens were able to make educated decisions on the best farming practices for their small piece of the Valley.

The vineyard is situated on the valley floor in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. The soil type is Bale Clay Loam. Based on soils testing and regional recommendations, the root stock selected was 3309-04. The Cabernet Sauvignon vine is Clone 7, the Merlot is clone 15 and Cabernet Franc is Clone 4.

It was determined that a 6’ x 6’ spacing would provide the best exposure to all the climate elements necessary for premium wine production. The vineyard was planted in 2003 and is meticulously managed by Doug Hill. We are thrilled with the results.
